By Soma approached Stone Solutions to bring a bold, heritage-integrated kitchen vision to life. With precision detailing, complex curves, and collaborative trust, the result is a striking expression of stone craftsmanship using Taj Mahal quartzite.
PROJECT OVERVIEW: 3560 By Soma
Set within a heritage-listed building in Paddington, this sculptural kitchen concept from By Soma called for uncompromising craftsmanship and precision stonework. From the outset, it was clear this would be no ordinary fitout – the use of Taj Mahal quartzite as the hero material brought strength, elegance, and technical challenge in equal measure. Every surface and detail was shaped to honour the bold design intent and the building’s historic character.
DESIGN APPROACH
The vision centred on expressive curves and fine detailing rarely attempted with quartzite. A custom triple bullnose edge profile wrapped into a curved return, flowing seamlessly into a steel-framed door that aligned with a restored heritage window. Opposite, a matching slab with triple bullnose underside pelmet was fully integrated into a cutout for the custom range hood. Splashbacks extended from benchtop to ceiling with continuous vein-matching – all executed without visible joins.
IMPLEMENTATION CHALLENGES
Working within the restrictions of a heritage property brought immediate logistical and structural constraints. Quartzite’s density made shaping complex curves especially challenging, requiring exacting technique and deep respect for the material. Seamless junctions, integrated steelwork, and delicate installation demanded close collaboration, problem-solving, and trust from both the designer and client. This partnership enabled us to deliver a kitchen that is both technically intricate and effortlessly resolved.
FINAL RESULT
A refined and sculptural centrepiece that balances bold design with timeless materiality. The result is a functional work of art – one that celebrates heritage, innovation, and the enduring beauty of natural stone.
